The reality star called time on her relationship with Lamar in 2013 but the basketball star has never responded to her divorce petition, so the case is expected to be dismissed.
And according to TMZ, the couple are not yet ready to close the door on their marriage for good.
The site adds the pair are not romantic and are not talking about a reconciliation, but claim they have been secretly talking.
However, Lamar, 35, is said to feel "betrayed" by Khloe and she has told him she wants a "grand gesture" before they can take the next step, but he is not willing to do anything.
According to TMZ, sources close to Khloe say she has a "big heart" and worries about hurting the sportsman by ending their marriage, but she also still has feelings for him.
The 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' star called time on her relationship with Lamar in 2013 amid rumours he had been unfaithful to her, and just two months later she requested to legally terminate their four-year marriage.
Their divorce has not yet been granted and the reality star recently revealed she doesn't believe in divorce.
She explained: "I don't necessarily believe in divorce, but I do think there are certain reasons why you have to end a marriage. I'm still going through my divorce and I wish I didn't have to do that.
"I love Lamar a million per cent. I turned 30 last June and by the time I hit that age, I thought I'd have kids and still be married. But because that's not the way it went, you can't sit in a ball and cry."
The 30-year-old brunette has since dated rapper French Montana, but insisted at this moment in time, she's focusing on herself.
She told Australia's Cosmopolitan magazine: "I had a husband, so I think there's an adjustment period, which I don't want to rush. Dating is so weird but I'm happy - I moved into my new house, which is the first time I've owned a house on my own. It's a big step."
