I’ll not interfere in my successor’s govt —Gov Orji
UMUAHIA—OUTGOING governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, has vowed not to interfere with the administration of his successor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, dismissing insinuations in this regard.
According to him, insinuations that he will pry into the affairs of the incoming government because of claims that he single-handedly chose and made Ikpeazu governor, does not hold water.
Governor Orji said he would allow Ikpeazu to use his initiative and discretion to run the affairs of the state when sworn-in.
Orji, who made the pledge at Government House, Umuahia, when the Ukwa Peoples Assembly visited him, Wednesday, said that once his tenure elapsed on May 29, he would leave the affairs of the state to the new administration.
The governor said he would only visit on invitation as he would not want to be seen as teleguiding anybody.
He said that having been elected by the people as their governor, his successor should be given a free hand to govern the state and pleaded with the people to co-operate with the incoming administration for the rapid development of the state.
Orji, who said he ran an inclusive government in the state, stated that it was his belief that the next governor should also run an inclusive administration to be able to accommodate all shades of good idea for the good of the state
He, however, advised the incoming Ikpeazu’s government to have a listening ear, saying, “as the first Ukwa Ngwa governor, he knows the enormous expectation of the people on him.”
The governor used the forum to apologize to all those he might have offended in his duties as governor to forgive and forget.
