Senate President, David Mark, on Friday
urged the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure genuine
reconciliation of all sections of the country after his inauguration on
May 29, 2015.
He said, “What the nation needs now is genuine reconciliation of all sections of the country and not otherwise.”
Mark stated this at a thanksgiving Mass ahead of the end of the 7th Senate at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy, Apo in Abuja.
Mark enjoined Buhari to take genuine reconciliation as a priority to assuage the feelings of some aggrieved persons.
He
said, “What must be paramount is the service, welfare and security of
Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences.”
Mark also stressed the need to address
the insecurity situation in the country, especially in the North East
region, which has been ravaged by the violent sect, Boko Haram.
He also counselled public office seekers against desperation for power.
Mark said, “There is no need to be
desperate for power, since power comes from God. Once we acknowledge
this, we will not be at each other’s throat.”
