FIFA WWC: We are ready for any team, says Falcons coach -


With barley 11 days to their FIFA Women World Cup group opener against Australia, Super Falcons coach, Edwin Okon has stated that his wards will not have any fear of the big teams in group D tagged the ‘group of death’.

Okon, was speaking after the hosts of the tournament Canada held the Super Falcons to a goalless draw Monday in Downsview Park, Toronto Canada. He said that the friendly was good for the team, adding that they have noticed some lapses, which will be correct when they taken on Australia on June 8 in Vancouver.

“This match was very good for us. It is a grade A friendly, we have always wanted. With our our performance in this game, we have no fear of playing against any side in the tournament,” said the coach.

“Generally the girls played well, we will go back to the drawing board to see how to correct the lapses noticed before our next friendly game. It was a good game for us,” Okon told www.thenff.com.

With a tightly knit defence and fast attack breaks, the Super Falcons revealed a glimpse of what their group opponents, USA, Sweden and Australia should expect from them in the tournament in which they have been dubbed the dark horse.

Canadian coach John Herdman confirmed that the Super Falcons will be a coaches nightmare because of their defensive tactics. Also Canadian central defender, Kadeisha Buchanan added that the Super Falcons are one of the most physical teams they have ever faced. Buchanan, is familiar with Oshoala. Both played in the 2014 under-20 World Cup in Canada last year, though they didn’t face each other.
