APC set to unleash inciting video against Jonathan —Fani-Kayode

Jonathan spent N1 trillion on hate campaign, APCPCO alleges
THE Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of preparing to release a video allegedly to incite Nigerians against President Goodluck Jonathan while calling for a military intervention should Jonathan become re-elected.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, the director of media of the organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, vowed that Nigerians would resist any attempt to change government through extra-constitutional means.
This came as the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO), on Monday, alleged that President Jonathan-led PDP, in his re-election bid, had expended about N1 trillion on hate campaign against the party.
The director of media and publicity of the campaign organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, who addressed a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, noted that no amount of sponsored negative media propaganda could stop the party’s idea of change.
Speaking on the inciting video against Jonathan, Fani-Kayode said the plan to release the video was another attempt by the APC and their allies to denigrate, bring into disrepute and shame the Nigerian people, government and key government officials in the run-up to Saturday’s presidential election.
“A new video has been produced by the dirty tricks unit of the APC. This video, according to their plan, is scheduled to be released to the Nigerian people in a matter of days. It is our sincere hope and desire that this will not be so.
“Unfortunately, the desperation of the opposition party is such that they are prepared to do or say just anything in order to denigrate the powers that be, to undermine our nation, to incite our people and to bring the president, the government and its officials to disrepute.
“The latest video, which was produced by a group called APC New Video, was quietly procured and secretly viewed by the intelligence unit of this directorate. Amongst other things, they have listed as topics a number of issues and allegations some of which are listed below:
“That many Nigerians are using private jets and that this in some way is indicative of the corrupt nature of the Nigerian people, which, of course, is absurd.
“Secondly, that in the last four years, the government has spent N48 billion on the presidential air fleet, which is a lie.
“Thirdly, they raised issues about the kidnapping of the Chibok girls, insinuating that somehow the government had a hand in the whole affair and that they are hiding the girls.
“Fourthly, they raised issues about the comments of Steven Davis, the Australian negotiator who alleged that a ‘friend’ of the president, Ali Modu Sheriff, is sponsoring Boko Haram.
“They made all kinds of allegations, including the alleged relationship between the president of Chad, the president of Nigeria and Ali Modu Sheriff. Needless to say these allegations are baseless and they are simply unbelievable.
“We just wonder how somebody in his right senses will come up with these kinds of allegations. There are many other things they have listed in this video which lasted about nine minutes.
“Again, a lot of foreign footage is contained in the video which suggests that there is an international dimension to the production. This confirms our fears and belief that the APC is being sponsored primarily by money from foreign countries and by agents of foreign governments that are hostile to the interest of our beloved nation.
“We also believe that some shady groups in the Middle East may well have a hand in the funding of this video production and in the construction and conjuring up of these baseless allegations,” Fani-Kayode said.
Speaking on the alleged hate campaign by the PDP, Fani-Kayode said the opposition had lost touch with reality, adding that “they are being driven by fear of losing on Saturday.”
While addressing newsmen, Mallam Shehu, on Monday, however, said “we will like to bring to your attention and that of Nigerians to how the President Jonathan-led PDP government is wasting N1 trillion that belong to Nigerian people in his self-serving and desperate bid for a re-election at all cost, in the midst of grinding poverty his party and government has subjected Nigerians to in the last 16 years.”
According to him, “we are very much concerned as a campaign organisation that this hundreds of billions that have been sunk into bottomless pit of illogical and unreasonable negative campaign of calumny can conveniently provide basic amenities and social services that will improve the standard of living of our people through improvement in our healthcare delivery system, education, road, access to credit by rural women, improve our national electricity grid to save businesses from collapsing under high cost of generating their own power.
“A fraction of the trillion naira hate campaign expenditure will fund the APC programme of feeding primary school pupils in Nigeria on one nutritional meal a day, comfortably pay N5,000 monthly to 25 million very poor Nigerians for a year and pay unemployment benefit for one year for graduates who can’t find gainful employment one year after NYSC, which are core to the social welfare programmes of the APC-led Federal Government Buhari will lead,” Mallam Shehu claimed.
Speaking further, he said “we had expected that a president that has spent about six years in office with the revenues more than what all governments before him had received will run on a record of performance, rather than peddling lies and hate media campaigns accentuating ethnic and religious tensions in the country.”
